Liz and Jeremiah came over for a bonfire and Pasbt night. The backyard is finally mowed down, thanks to Jeff, so campfires are due. Check out the Rover chicks in the background.
Tiff and I met this guy named Shawn at an antique barn. He pulled in driving a topless Series and came over to talk to us in the Disco. So, Shawn has the dream Rovers shop in Asheville. He restores Series trucks among other Rover stuff. Jeremiah had run into him the other day also, so he I drove over there and took some Rover porn photos! The crazy looking military Rover is a 101 Forward Control.
This was the hottest most humid day of the year. Tiff and I went to Jones Gap to explore. It is at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We decided to go up to Pinnacle Pass which was an adventure for sure. There were sections were someone had hung down a plastic coated steel cable to aid in "hiking" which could better be defined by bouldering with huge drop-offs. Tiff made it 80% of the way and she had to stop.
I kept going and began to get dizzy, tired, and a little crazy...like when you add heat and humidity to it. I reached a turn on the upper ridge and sunlight shot through on to a patch of dead leaves. As soon as I turned the corner, lizards went scurrying everywhere.
After many breaks and leaving my Alice pack behind I summited. There was a small granite out cropping and a 1,500 foot drop straight down to the river bed. I took a few pictures of myself as proof and hiked down to Tiff. I began to pour rain right at the base, so we hiked to the Rover and headed home. The pictures are very grainy because of the humidity. We are going to attacked that peak again for sure.
Tiff and I went sailing with Mom and Dad on a visit back to Michigan. It was a beautiful day and the wind was just right. Tiff took the helm and captained for awhile. We love being out there especially when were with family.
No....not the fish. Greg and Melanie came to visit us.We gave them the tour and did some relaxing. Melanie went back to visit her sister and brother in Durham and left Greg to play. Greg did some relatively strenuous hiking up to John Rock summit. Tiffany, Liz, Jeremiah, Greg, and I all went. It was a little warm and humid, but an amazing time had by all. The rock face in the distance is Looking Glass Rock. There is a trout hatchery at the base to the mountain too. John Rock is a favorite of ours.
Jeremiah and Liz took Tiff and I up to Hot Springs, NC in the Disco1 this weekend. The drive is excellent when you get towards Hot Springs. The road winds through the mountains, over rivers, and there are steep drop-offs along the way.
As we got into town, it was buzzing with people, motor cycle groups and hikers. The AT runs straight through downtown and there are little stores, outfitters, ans rafting guides. We passed through up to Mountain Side Cabins which were quite literally on the side of a mountain. We had to move the picnic table away from the edge because it was so dangerous.
We played Liz's favorite game Blokus which borderlines insanity. Even more fun listening to Weezer, drinking Pabst, Red Wine, Whiskey, and Bacardi. You get the idea.
